Gingher Seam Ripper Review

I am currently on a hunt for a good quality seam ripper. I usually use the cheap ones that's short, and awkward to use. So, my requirements are a good handle for now.

I saw this pretty neat looking Gingher seam ripper. I like how the blade retracts. So, I purchased it and decided to try it out.

I opened it last night, pretty good looking.

I really like how it has a retractable blade (p.s. I'm not left handed, I just needed my right hand to hold the camera and take pictures)

A little awkward for my hand. Not sure if I was holding it right.
Well, then the most important part... the seam ripping.

the tip, it's a bit curved, not sure if you can see it here:

It doesn't work very well on getting under the thread, it keeps slipping away from the seam. The tip is pretty thick, so, it is difficult to get under the seam. I can see how it would be nice to use when ripping the seam of two fabrics. For any seam ripping of top stitches, it's going to be difficult.

As much as I love the look, it does not pass the test on ripping the seams. It is difficult to get under the seams. If I can't get to underneath the seam, then it makes it kind of pointless on ripping the seam, huh?

Don't get me wrong, I love Gingher, just not their new seam ripper.

So, onto the next seam ripper.

Adopt A Family

I know, I know. You've probably been asking where I have been. I'm still here. Everything is just crazy busy right now. Isn't it always like that around the holidays?

Well, let's start in November. *image blurs*

Our work does a Adopt-a-Family every year, and ever studio heads up a different activity for our work. This year, our studio did Adopt-A-Family.
Earlier in the year (is this going to be another image blur?), I did some searching for local non-profit organizations. I had found Cancer Action KC.
They head up a "Making Wishes Come True" (which is their Adopt-A-Family) for families that a member of the family with cancer and are in poverty.

We were aiming high, and we decided to adopt FIVE families! Apparently, in the past only 30% of the employees help to purchase items for the families. I don't blame them, we already have families that our church, neighborhood, etc. adopt as it is.
But this year, we decided to do it a little bit differently. We let the office know the families they are helping, and what cancer they had, etc.

We did a bake sale to purchase a little extra (or if the presents weren't purchased, we'd use the bake sale money to purchase).

It was such a big success! All the gifts wished for were purchased, and some beyond!
Look at all these amazing presents! These weren't even all of them either!!!!

I'm so proud to work for the company that I do, and so proud of my fellow employees who made this Christmas amazing for these amazing families!

How to Add the Like Button to your Blogspot page

There was a comment how you are more likely to receive facebook likes when you have the like button on your blog versus sending them to your facebook page for them to like you there. It makes sense, it takes away that middle step of opening another browser or sending them away to facebook... because we all know that when you're on facebook, you forget all reasons why you were suppose to do on the computer in the first place.

Alright, I had to ask Steve on how to do all this, since he's the computer guy.

Here we go.

Go here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/  (this will open another browser)

Scroll down to "Step 1"
When you enter in your facebook page, make sure you enter it like this : http://www.facebook.com/pagename -- for example, mine looks like this: http://www.facebook.com/nicherndesigns

Design what you'd like the "like" area to look like, with faces or not.

When you're done, click "Get Code"
You'll need both codes.  Keep this screen up, as you'll need to copy and paste.

Open another browser, you need to go to Blogspot.

Go to the template

Click "Edit HTML"

Click "Proceed"

Now click "Ctrl+f" -- we're going to find "/head".
Go to the facebook code page. Copy the first code, and paste it after the <  body .....  - see where i used the giant arrow in the image? post it there.

Click save template.
Now, go to the blogspot layout. click "add gadget" to where you'd like the like button to be located on your blog. Add the javascript option, then paste the second code from the facebook code page.
save.
and that should be it!
Let me know if you have any questions!
and show me your like button! ;)
